There are many apps out there which can help college students stay in shape. Since each app is different, we recommend doing your research and picking the one that’s best for you. Here are four of our favorite fitness apps:

FitStar is a free personal trainer app with options to buy more advanced workouts. The best feature of the app is that it lets you build custom workouts which match your specific goals.

Hot5 is fairly self-explanatory. It’s an app which offers several intensive 5 minute workouts. You have to pay a small monthly fee, but it’s worth it for those who are short on time.

Kiqplan offers a combination of workouts and nutrition advice. It’s good for those who aren’t just looking to exercise more, but also want to improve their diet.

Fitness Buddy

And finally, Fitness Buddy is an app that comes with tons of free workouts. There are also options to pay monthly or yearly if you want access to more advanced routines.

Another factor to consider is if it’s better to rely on a fitness app or to work out with a personal trainer. The problem with apps is that there’s no one there to hold you to your routine. It’s easier to blow off your iPad than it is to cancel a session with your intense trainer.

Of course hiring a personal trainer isn’t cheap, and if you’re like most other college students, you don’t have the extra money to spend on luxuries.

Before you choose a fitness app, understand that your workouts will thrive on personal motivation. It’s up to you whether you want to stick with your app or whether you’ll use it as much as the old games still stored on your phone.
